The world moves in a cyclical pattern. What was considered old fashioned and out-dated yesterday might well become the latest and hottest trend tomorrow.
Strangely enough, we are all trapped in a conflicting time cocoon called ‘Today.’
We do not know how to deal with all the absolutely confusing, conflicting thoughts and feelings that zoom through our minds and hearts. Our physical body bears the brunt of this intense stress, and we are plagued by vague chronic aches and pains incessantly.
Were our ancestors really outdated? Is our future really as glorious and progressive as it seems to us?
Why then do we feel we are forced to keep pace with the fast-paced modern life and adopt an equally tough attitude to survive and excel in it?
Why then at the end of our every ‘Today’ – we feel our conscience nagging us and pricking us? Why do we end up tossing and turning in our beds the whole night? Why do we wake up with dread? Is it because we are tired to the core of facing yet another similar day with the same state of mind and heart?
We then delve into our past and desperately seek mental and emotional anchors to bail us out of our current predicament.
And we slowly realize that it all begins and ends with our physical bodies.
Stage 1: The physical realm:
Start by taking care of our bodies first.
Overcome the temptation of gorging on junk food.
Respect our body enough to nurture it and nourish it with a simple nutritious piping hot homemade meal cooked with positive vibrations by our loved ones.
Learn to exercise regularly.
Experience the beauty of going out for long solo walks.
Invigorate our body by breathing in all that fresh air.
Appreciate the beauty of nature.
Practice silence for a small part of our day every day.
Listen to music that soothes us and calms us.
Now learn to observe how all our negative feelings and thoughts ebb away with every step that we take.
Remember all those positive and motivational quotes that endorse the value of good food and regular exercise.
Set the tone and pulse of our own ‘Today’ by filling our physical body with positive energy every day.
Now experience the refreshing quality of our sleep.
Yes – we have to work on all those inspiring quotes. Not just read them and forget about them!
Stage 2: The mental realm:
Overcome our addiction to playing meaningless endless games on our smartphones.
Refrain from watching dramatic totally stupid endless serials on TV.
Avoid corrupting our mind by watching movies that portray violence in any form.
Be extremely selective about the mental food that we feed our minds.
Learn to use the digital and visual media to our advantage.
Focus on nurturing our relationships by creating happy and positive family times.
Understand that a lot of understanding and thought goes into maintaining a stable family structure.
Create an open and free communication channel amongst our family members so that all of us are able to air our views and beliefs freely and openly.
Learn to accept our own limiting beliefs when our children bring them to our notice.
Refrain from enforcing our beliefs on other family members.
Discuss all our flaws and our plus points neutrally.
Forge intergenerational bonds so that the values are passed on seamlessly.
Understand that it is the moral responsibility of all the family members to maintain the structure of the family.
Realize that people of all age groups make gross mistakes.
Rely upon and delve into our scriptures to understand and cope with such complex family scenarios.
Apply all the learning that we derive within the family to other spheres of our life.
Relearn the art of laughing together to our heart’s content.
Read inspirational stories/pieces of news/regularly quotes so that we work on a higher plane of consciousness.
Expose our children to such inspirational snippets so that the right values and thoughts seep into their minds.
Consciously work on and ensure the quality of our every ‘Today.’
Stage 3: The emotional realm:
Understand that every thought that zips around our minds evoke an emotion within us.
Therefore realize the importance of feeding our mind with the right/positive thoughts.
Understand that the books we read, the soaps and movies we watch on TV influence our thinking pattern to a very great extent.
Use our own experiences to understand this. What are the kinds of emotions that we experience when we read a thriller/mystery novel or view a horror/violent movie at night? What were the kinds of emotions that we experienced when we read the Harry Potter series or watched the Harry Potter movies? Did such movies make us think for a long long time? Did such wondrous books help us understand the complexities of human behavior? Did we take away a big dose of learning from such books and movies? Were we able to apply that learning in our life at some stage of our lives?
Realize that such inspiring stories fill us with positive energy and positive emotions. The Ramayana, the Mahabharata, the Panchatantra tales, etc. too reinforce the right values in us and generate positive emotions within us.
Such simple and complex tales were created by our ancestors because they knew that only the values that are cultivated within us will bail us out of all the crises that we face on a daily basis. Our ancestors had a lot of foresight and wisdom. They knew that man will need a sound set of core values in order to cope with the rapidly ever changing times.
For every crisis that we face in our lives, we will find some inspiring quote or some inspiring story that reorients our thinking and fills our hearts with positive emotions.
When we feel dejected and are rooted in utter despair – these inspirational pieces of news/stories/quotes/scriptures come to our rescue. We gain the courage to move on despite the darkness of the tunnel. We learn to operate from the point of love and forgiveness instead of working from the point of pettiness and frustration.
All is not wrong with the digital media too. Wisdom and positive inspiring quotes are just a finger’s touch away in our smartphones. All those lovely short inspiring videos and write ups that we get on our message centers make us smile in the midst of a hectic day. Love can be transmitted virtually in code language and can most certainly brighten another person’s day J! Reading such inspiring quotes and stories will slowly and steadily fill us with positivity on a daily basis.
Inspiring stories linger in our memories and percolate into our souls. When we nourish and nurture all the three realms of our lives with the right food – we will be able to strike the right balance every day. We are able to empower ourselves to create great ‘Todays’ every day!
Yes, all of us are indeed trapped in an extremely confusing conflicting complex day and age. But these positive stories spread their positive vibrations around the entire universe even as they seep into our subconscious minds and hearts.
We are now able to forge ahead with determination and courage which equips us with the energy to create a great ‘Today’ every day.
